Uusinta Ensemble’s new album presents music by Mioko Yokoyama

Uusinta Ensemble’s next album “Mioko Yokoyama: Mineralization” will be published in August. The ensemble will celebrate the new CD and Mioko’s music in an album release concert on 23 August in Villa Hakasalmi. The record is published by Austrian record label Kairos.

The album includes four works from different parts of Mioko Yokoyama’s career: the captivating, award-winning Mineralization (2023), the solo work for prepared piano entitled Game of Metal (2017), the expansive solo cello work Circular Spell (2018) and There are always flowers (2021), an ensemble piece about hope written during the pandemic. Both of the ensemble pieces are commissioned by the Uusinta Ensemble, of which Mineralization won the composer the Teosto prize in 2025.

Recorded in Monikkosali in Nurmijärvi, Finland, between 2022-2024, on the album the solo pieces are performed by pianist Emil Holmström and cellist Markus Hohti, and the ensemble consists of Malla Vivolin (flute), Helmi Malmgren (bass clarinet), Maria Puusaari (violin), Pinja Nuñez (cello), Anna-Sofia Anttonen (saxophone) and Max Savikangas (viola). The album was recorded, mixed and mastered by the trusted recording engineer and artistic producer Markku Veijonsuo.

On the album release concert 23 August in Villa Hakasalmi we will hear Mineralization, Game of Metal (2017), and There are always flowers (2021), and in between the music Uusinta Ensemble’s artistic director Jarkko Hartikainen will discuss with the composer on the works and Mioko’s intriguing techniques, and dwell deeper on art, inspiration and the meaning of music. Tickets for the concert are available in lippu.fi (Visit an external site. The link opens in a new tab.).
